Putting upcoming job on CV?

I start a job next week. Its not a grad job but I am still applying for grad jobs. Do I update my CV to include this job? Shows I'm in employment. Or do I leave it out?

If you include the job with a start date of April, and as a potential employer I receive your cv a week later, how keen would I be to employ someone who gets a job one week and leaves it the next - UNLESS you can say, with honesty, that it is either a temporary job; or one which is quite obviously a 'fill in' of some description, where you need little training to make yourself useful to your employer and can be easily replaced.

Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

Fair point, its more that it shows I'm in employment, few months down the line, I imagine its not such an issue.

Been in a similar position in the past? Is the job full time or part time?

If it's part time leave/temp job it in, a lot of employers value someone moving from part time to full time work regardless of how long they've been in part time work, as the reason for leaving part time to go full time is fairly clear if explained (i.e need more hours, looking for full time job in own sector) and the fact you're not coming cold from unemployment could bump you up the candidate list. Even then I'd probably wait until your in the job to put it down even if just a few weeks.

If it's full time your in a much stickier situation as any employer is going to be concerned that you're willing to leave a full time role after such a short period of time to move sectors/jobs as there's no reason you couldn't do this to them too and it's basically a wasted investment in you against someone with a solid work history of 2-3 years at their previous employers (and don't think just because you're looking at grad jobs this won't apply, a lot of students are loyal to employers throughout university etc - you might have more leg room if you're one of those) .
  • And why exactly would you be updating your CV with a job you don't even have?

At short notice I have an Interview this week.  My CV I sent to them dosent mention job I'm starting next week. Do I mention if asked in interview? Worried they ask what I've been up to. This is grad job in field I studied, the job next week is a delivery driver five days a week.
  • I wouldn’t mention the job you are about to start, just act as if you are ready to start immediately and free as a bird to do so. 🙂

Best of luck 🤞 for the interview.

I wanted to say before (If you have to start the driving job, probably best getting in the door, getting through first day and finding out reference policy as discretely as possible, if you can)

I have to cope, against my belief, and simply to ensure I don’t end up in another samey Call Centre, with a recent 3 week job of such showing on the CV - for every employer that progresses me, ie. offering interview, another Employer say’s no thanks. Equally the last time I was looking and had chance of FTC from a more mature interviewer I actually felt bad declaring that I was in a job that hadn’t worked, like I was putting her on the awkward spot to hire me. It was pretty uncomfortable I thought.

Yes, I m very much free to start a job for my career, depending on how soon I will still work in the job that starts next for a few weeks. More worried about only having one temp job since leaving uni to answer for.

Never applied for call centre work! Hope it works out.

Personally I wouldn't put it on my CV but I would feel quite happy mentioning it in a job interview. I think it's just background to you now, can demonstrate others saw you as employable but that it's not your career job hence the interviewing. In today's market it's not like you can just sit and wait for the graduate job with nothing to support you in the meantime.

Yes, its not on MY cv, As I start this new job next week, its going to be difficult if I get invited to interviews. I could be vague and say dentist  appointement.
