Afternoon all
can anyone advise me on this,my place of work pays travel expenses to all. my query is i have had to start paying toll charges 3 years ago to get to and from work this is costing me approximately £850 per year can i claim this back as my colegues who do not have to pay toll charges get the same expenses as me as it only goes on mileage costs
thanks 2468 kevo

No because its part of your commuting costs.
If you incur tolls as part of a business journey then you can claim it.
Mersey Gateway bridge by any chance?0 -
Mersey gateway yes
but surely it shouldn’t cost me £850 a year more if we all get same travel expenses0 -
Are you saying your employer pays you mileage for travelling to work? if so, read the policy carefully to see if it mentions tolls. Or are you home based and travelling to multiple work locations? Again, read the policy.
The harsh answer might be that you are not obliged to use the toll route - you could drive the long way round and claim a lot more mileage but spend longer on the road.
Are you perhaps the only person who lives on the other side so no-one has ever raised it with Finance before?I need to think of something new here...0 -

If you don't like it then move to the same side of the Mersey as your work or take the long route around Warrington.
I'm in the same boat as you, I have to pay to cross it when commuting, so does every other employee who lives the opposite side of the river. Business travel expenses are for business journeys only.0 -
I can't make up my mind... is this thread about Public Transport or is it about Cycling?1

How does it work out claiming for the longer mileage to avoid the toll but actually paying to use the tunnel? Your employer might raise their eyebrows at the sudden increase in diastance when you are in the same house.

OP can either pay £3.60 per day toll or 22 miles worth of fuel plus an extra 40 minute commute (minimum)0
