Employer has steamrollered through leave allowance changes. Can they do this?

I can't see how they are effectively giving anyone a pay cut?
The longest serving staff still get there 30 days allowance (25 basic + 5 long service) and they are still allowed to sell 5 days if they want to get the maximum amount of wages. The only things they can't do now is carry over holiday which means they have to use it up each year (which doesn't effect pay) and they can't buy extra holiday which results in less pay by choice so actually anyone who did this before would now be getting more money.4 -
Seems a reasonable proposition. I'd assume that due to the lock downs many people either haven't had the opportunity to take much holiday or have had no desire too. Your employer therefore doesn't wish to get caught with a large financial outlay from employees selling holiday entitlement back. As will will incur both pension and employers national insurance costs on top. In the broader scheme of having a paid job this is not a major issue I'd suggest.
Until the fog finally lifts. The true extent of the economic damage caused by Covid isn't going to be apparent. There's no light switch moment when all will be back to normal. There's a long slog ahead.

It's not covid, as selling is unchanged.
There hasn't been any reason communicated, so can only assume it's because company doesn't really value its staff anymore.
Sick of the place TBH. Holidays aren't holidays there anyway, the work just piles up when you are on leave and have to work twice as hard when you return to catch up again.
Like I mentioned, in the brave new world, companies are now on the back foot, as alternative employment is now a much larger playing field, not the back yard anymore.0 -
Have you actually seen the hard financial numbers? Far more to a profitable business than just selling product.V1m_Fuego said:It's not covid, as selling is unchanged.
There' no need to explain every management decision. The office rumour mill will run whatever.
Work is often hard and challenging. Want to earn a decent wedge you need to give commitment. No free lunches. Nor room for passengers.
Brave new world? Going to get a lot tougher yet for many companies. Survival of the fittest has always been the name of the game. It's a dog eat dog world.

If you do catch up that shows they don't all need people working the hours they do as there is a lot of slack.V1m_Fuego said:It's not covid, as selling is unchanged.

Selling of holiday days rules are unchanged, this is what I meant by selling. And yes, I have seen the financials, business good, covid had a positive impact on financials.Thrugelmir said:

It takes 2 weeks of 12 hour days and sky high stress levels to catch up. That's not a holiday.getmore4less said:If you do catch up that shows they don't all need people working the hours they do as there is a lot of slack.

So if you do, why would the company feel they needed to employ someone else.
It's not right, but if you just work your usual hours on return from holiday, usual speed and don't catch up, they will eventually click on.Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....1 -
I can see how having more people in more of the time may help this can’t you ?V1m_Fuego said:It's not covid, as selling is unchanged.
