This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning folks. It's a very frosty start here, cars are iced up still. I think another hour under my duvet is in order. 😀
My shopping trip yesterday went a bit wonky. I completely missed out buying all the stuff on my list, just plain forgot. Most weird, anyway will have to go out today to complete the shop, but only if the temperature increases.DM had a better'ish day. She managed to play her friend at Scrabble and beat him too. For many years they have played almost weekly and he keeps a book with all the scores written down. They were both academics so are methodical and rigorous with any kind of data. After he left DM was very tired, didn't want any evening meal again, watched Casualty and then fell asleep.Meanwhile, back at the pantry of doom all the old food is gone. 🎉🎉 There's two bags of food waste waiting to be taken out along with some plastic boxes used for storage. Funnily enough they are old drawers from a previous fridge or two which must rank high on the MSE ethos. I will soon start to transfer the multitude of tinned goods across to the pantry, though perhaps not today.I had a technical failure yesterday, my laptop mouse just stopped working, even a new battery failed to make it move so I zipped out to the nearest big Tesco for a new one. The old one was still recognised as being linked up to the laptop, just didn't respond. Another part of my weird day.As for today...no real idea apart from some vague ideas hoovering around my mind. I hope that everyone is doing OK at the very least TA - how did caravan fitting go?
Happy Sunday to all.13 -
Good morning, and thanks for starting Gers. Sorry to read that your Mum had a bad day yesterday - hope today will be better. It's a nice morning here, dry and sunny, but frosty.Yesterday was a bit of a non day because I'd had a bad night with a tummy upset, but as the day went on I felt better and I'm back to normal now. There are no particular plans for today, just catching up on a few household jobs, things that didn't get done last week because we were at DD's a lot, but there's nothing we can do there at the moment.I wouldn't mind visiting a garden centre, I would like another hosta,, and possibly a heuchera, so we might do that.Hope everyone has a good Sunday, take care folks15

Morning folks and thanks for the new thread GERS. Woke up to a covering of snow this morning aaargh!! But as we now have blue sky and sunshine it should soon be gone. I have just done a speed read of the last few days!
Been MIA for a few days with to-ing and fro-ing to the caravan site for the big shift of belongings from the Bailey to the new-to-us static. We are mystified as to how much stuff got in the Bailey as it was a nightmare fitting everything into one 3 times the size!! We are back over today but should be an easier day hopefully. Just odd bits to find homes for and a final clean around. We had a setback yesterday lunchtime when we couldn't get the gas oven to light and we were all gnawing the table legs waiting for lunch! The site chap came and sorted us out, it was a problem with the new gas canister connection. It's in a much nicer position than our old one looking across the field to the tree line of the Nidd. It's a very peaceful little site with no bars, clubs or shop, just a shower/laundry block. The perfect place to unwind.
NMLC the site owner said much the same to us yesterday about prices. We agreed on the price of the static last season and he said there is no way he could have got us one for that price this year. They are much in demand with staycation the way to go now. We part ex the Bailey and awning as part of the deal so just the awning contents to get rid of now. A few things have been donated to a family DD knows who have a van near to the pitch we have left but some stuff is far too good to give away so DD is hoping to sell.
I was reminded I haven't made a Bolognese Bake for a long time so I made one last night to take over for lunch today. I am now all ready and waiting for a 9.30 pick up. A bit later today with Sunday opening as DD wants to call at B & M on the way for stuff we need.
Have a good day folks. ((HUGS)) as always for the poorlies, sad or worried. Take care xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"15 -
Morning All
Sounds busy TA, hope you have some very happy stays in your new caravan.
So glad your DM can still play scrabble and do crosswords Gers, good luck with the can moving, you'll have strong muscles after that.
Bright again this morning with beautiful sunshine melting the frost, I could get used to this but could do with it being a bit warmer! I sat outside reading yesterday all covered in a throw - within 5 minutes the sun had gone, dark clouds rolled in and it was snowing! Cue a quick scuttle inside to finish the book.
Sorted out the beds at the allotment yesterday and came home to plant up some hollyhocks that had been delivered although they are just in pots in the little greenhouse at the moment, far too cold to put them out yet.
I have a bagful of glass for the glassbank so will take that along shortly, apart from that nothing planned.
Hope you all have a peaceful Sunday, take care. XX14 -
Gers, I do admire your DM. My best friend wouldn't call me an academic but I do enjoy cryptic crosswords and sudokus in an effort to keep the brain cells active. I must admit that I've given up doing the killer sudokus, I really wasn't enjoying them any more.
The brain is a funny animal. I've probably told you before that my parents always did the Telegraph crossword every morning and when my DM was in the throes of dementia and didn't even know who she was, my DF would only have to say, "What's the Latin for.....?" and Mum would snap it right back. Strange.
TA, here's hoping for many happy hours in your new van. I'm so reassured to hear that you have made a Bolognese Bake, it makes it seem that some sort of normality is returning to the world.
Hope everyone has a peaceful and reasonably warm Sunday.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Hi everyone, Ironically, after all our worries about Steve I've not been very well for a week or so. I have atrial fibrillation which was investigated about 10 years ago and put down to just one of those things. When I said to the consultant that it made me feel ill he just shrugged and said "It will". Since that episode I've not had many bad episodes but recently it's not been great. I might ring the Dr this week just to make sure nothings changed. I couldn't get to sleep last night because I lay there feeling my heart beating erratically and wondering if I'd wake up - stupid I know.
Anyway, enough self-pity, I actually started to cutting fabric for a new project. My sister-in-law asked me to make her a table runner a while ago but I couldn't do it while Laura and Brian were here. It's a nice small project to get me going again.
Apart from that I'm going to be taking it easy today, making foil wrapped lamb steaks and mediterranean vegetables for dinner and watching football and golf.

Morning all, well after nights of not sleeping I finally slept heavily last night and woke up at 10amThe sun is shining and I really should be doing something in the garden, but it's still only 2 degrees and my extremities don't like the cold. So not much will be going on chez nous today, except putting the dw on, but I've been fancying a treacle tart, so I might make one if I can get my act together. If it doesn't happen today it will be done tomorrow as I have already taken some leftover pieces of bread that I have been saving, out the freezer ready to make it ( hate throwing the crusts away )I don't know what to have for tea today, probably something plain again as Mr Fix It has been suffering with a funny tummy since the beginning of last week, don't understand why, may be medication related.Still don't understand what's going on with the posts but I'm struggling with this spacing and I'm finding it hard to read while typing and also after when reading back to correct it. Seems some people on other threads are having the same problem, so it might be MSE and not me.TA hope you get a lot of joy from your new static.Maisie sorry I didn't see your late post the other day, so welcome to the Dailies.Gers hope you have a better day and not so weird. What are you going to sort out next, now that the pantry is nearly done ? I have a coat cupboard where I swear the coats breed if you're available !Hugs to Snoozer and Scarlett hope you are better today.Marie hope you are on the mend too.Take care all, stay safe and well.nan xx

Morning, Hugs if you need one. Pleased Gers to read that your Mum was a little better yesterday.
Bright, but cold morning here, windows open, heat off for an hour or so. Veggies prepped for supper. I have pork steaks am wondering whether to do them in foil in the Remoska. Need to sort out a dessert.
Quilt all in bits, it has been pressed and folded along with the backing and wadding ready to go to be quilted. I made up one nine patch block with the tea party fabric, I need to make another one, to see how it will go together when its been cut up and re sewn.
Nothing else planned for the day. Hoping that the TV will revert to normal programming today. There are a couple of programmes we would like to see. DB watched the rugby yesterday afternoon, it drives me nuts hearing the referee shouting, so I went into the sewing room.
Cleaner and gardener here tomorrow. I think it will be the last time for the gardener, he says its not worth coming out to us for less than 2 hours, at the moment we do not have that much work for him. Tomorrow the hedge needs trimming, and DB wants all the lawn edging and the weeds removing from the gully, so we can put weed suppressant fabric down and then back fill with gravel. Hopefully it will be easier to keep weed free then. Once the fabric is down I need to get gravel, need to weigh up if its going to be cheaper to have a builders bag of gravel.
Right off for my morning tea and made up a second nine patch block.

Morning All
Hugs to all the poorlies or those who need one
James is on in the background DH says it will confuse people into thinking its Saturday
Not really MIA I have been reading along
Work has been very busy but now coming back to normal
Hearing TA talk about her static makes me realise I'm glad I have booked a week away with DGC this year
Due to covid I have only seen them in person once since last March so hoping no surprises before August. We are going to Norfolk so a chance for Ddad to see his GGC They love their great grandad and he is the only one they call grandad as their other grandads have always had other pet names
Really hoping people will be sensible when the shops open this week and don't go mad and are respectful to the retail workers it is disgraceful hearing some of the stories about how they have been treated
To try and get some more movement out of this rather tired and excess fat carrying body of mine I have treated myself to a smart watch due to arrive today (it was in the sale and 50% cheaper than the one I bought DH for his birthday last year so mse ) hoping it will help me when I see the number of steps I'm doing
Right I have waffled on for long enough hope everyone has a good day

Afternoon everyone
I had a nice visit from my friend yesterday - a good chat and some delicious cake she bought on her way.
This morning I slept late so didn't get anything done before I went to mam and dads. It's the only symptom I seem to have left from my problems after my jab - I'm still really tired and struggle to get up. I hope it doesn't last much longer as I'm back to work tomorrow.
My doctor said to ring tomorrow and arrange a face to face appointment if I still had a sore chest, but I haven't today so I don't think I'll need to.
I have bolognese sauce cooking and will make a lasagne for tea tonight, tomorrow night and some for the freezer. Also got my bedding on the line having a nice blow. The sun is shining so I'll do some more tidying in the garden. I still have my clematis to plant - tonight is meant to be the last night of freezing temperatures so I'll get them in one afternoon after work.
I won £15 on the Grand National yesterday so will put that towards getting my hair cut tomorrow - I can't wait!
Hope everyones having a good day12
