Amusing, but I'm sure posters are (deliberately or otherwise) are missing the point. Waitrose/JL are chipping away at service to customers. They have successfully delivered newspapers and now they are choosing not to. Why? 🤔
And that's precisely the reason John Lewis is going down the pan - it's given up caring any more about its customers.0 -
I suspect we wont be seeing the coffee again either.
Of course the excuse being given regarding the newspapers is dubious, same as when they did away with the PYO offers claiming it was too complicated for customers to understand.
Anyway, my Waitrose delivery is mid evening tomorrow so my free newspaper should be delivered.

"Doc_N said:...They've never once failed to deliver my paper, even on 0800 orders, so I suspect the excuse they're using is a pack of lies. Even if they made it 10am there might be some truth in it, but 3pm is just designed to stop people getting their papers - who wants it that late in the day? ..."
We never failed to receive our 'free' newspaper on early deliveries either. I was told it was to do with not being able to guarantee a delivery because they couldn't be sure when the store would get delivery of the paper.
I suggested they allowed customers to order the paper and all they had to do was put the message on the item - delivery not guaranteed on pre-3pm delivery slots! But no they didn't think that was a good idea.
I agree, I complained to Bracknell Head Office but the woman I spoke to was utterly obdurate! TBH she wasn't particularly pleasant either - not what I expect from Waitrose customer service at all. And I said so. She said they would not be changing their policy as they'd already taken customers views into account - not mine I said!
So I guess they took account of (apparently) the few customers who didn't get their early morning paper delivered and the rest of us can go hang!0 -
Hot off the presses - new Waitrose policy announcement:
”Because the coffee machine in our Colchester store ran out of coffee for a short while last Wednesday afternoon, we realise that there is a risk that some Colchester customers may have missed out on their free coffee.
In fairness to those customers, we have therefore taken the decision to stop the free coffee scheme across the entire country”.

I tried to find the article, couldn't find anything on Google, so is this post about free coffee correct?

The free coffee scheme has been suspended for over a year now.0

And now they’re bringing in delivery charges too. So no free newspaper, high prices, and a £5 delivery charge on top.Why have I been charged for delivery?
To manage increasing demand for Waitrose deliveries, we've introduced a delivery charge at selected stores.
If your store is operating a delivery charge, it will be added automatically to your total at checkout once you have confirmed a delivery slot. The amount is displayed above the 'Total' on the order confirmation screen.
