I think alot of headlines around this are a little misleading, the full details of how things will work hasn't yet been gone into and is still under review.

The gov have made a general statement around the traffic light system but no details around the countries etc.
There is over a month to 17th May and the travel operators will be campaigning hard over tests and restrictions. If numbers keep falling as they have been I think the green countries still requiring a full PCR test will probably be reconsidered. Especially if other countries say they will except vaccine instead of tests.

I think there will be many revisions to come before May as with everything else recently lol.

Possible dumb question: how does this work if you want to travel one way? I need to update my residency details where i live, so if i don't return anytime soon leaving shouldn't be as much of an issue,  right?

    Correct.
I wouldn't be booking anything based on this projected travel scenario.

I think MSE have jumped the gun , nobody knows how it will work yet ( if it works at all given this gvts recent history)

    Yep.
The plans they have now, the plans they are leaking to friendly media, and the plans they will announce, three different things.

These aren't "leaks" or "speculation". It's based on the govt announcement. Here, you can read it on gov.uk:
Obviously still loads of unknowns, as whatever the UK govt does it'll depend on the situation abroad. It's just a framework at the moment. I won't be booking anything yet, it'll be a last minute thing again this year if we do go away, assess the situation and book a few days ahead if it's worth going. Like last year, which worked well.
