Petrol allowance driving to and from train station

Hi - I travel to 10 different construction sites over a ten day period. Some I drive to, other days i travel by train. I've been told that i can claim back the difference between what my company allows per mile (12p) and the HMRC allowance of 45p.
My question is - can i claim for the journey to and from the train station as my final destination is different every day? HMRC seem to define a commute as a journey to a regular place of work, hency mu confusion...

just so you know, this is incorrect, you can claim tax relief, not the difference
for the first 10,000 miles you would receive 6.6p per mile if a 20% taxpayer

Does your employer allow you to claim the mileage (12p/mile) for the journey to and from the train station?

If so, your employer has assessed this as a business journey and then I understand that you can claim the tax back on the difference between 12p/mile and 45p/mile (reducing to 25p/mile after 10k miles).  NOTE - it is not always the case that the employer assessing a business journey directly aligns with the HMRC rules, but it can be a good indicator.

Would I be correct in assuming you receive a car allowance and then the 12 p / mile is to cover petrol only?
