Advantage Finance - Direct debit fee
Good Morning,
wondering if there is any advice as I’m a little confused..
wondering if there is any advice as I’m a little confused..
So I got a car on finance with advantage the direct debit was set up for the 28th of each month - never missed a payment - I then had to give up my job in 2019 due to my daughter being disabled - I called Advantage to say that I would need to amend the DD date to the 11th of each month as that’s when I would be paid - and all my bills would come out the same day.
They agreed and it was changed, and as since been coming out on the 11th..
it’s only now 2 years later - after sorting out my bills as I’m going into a IVA - that they questioned the amount on the car finance, it should have been £115 a month but actually I’ve been paying £127!

I’ve never really noticed as all my bills come out on the 11th and that’s it.
Advantage as saying now that they charge me £12 a month for a late payment fee because the direct debit has been changed from 28th to the 11th..
There has been nothing in writing at all to say this was the case, I’ve never missed a payment in the time I’ve had the loan.

So now I’m paying extra £12 a month because I had to change the Direct debit..
I don’t understand why... apart from them telling me it’s because the direct debit it late every month.. surly they should have told me this in the first place? Or even have something in error if to say this was the case.

It sounds like they handled this badly
I am guessing rather than moving your dd to earlier in the month (paying 17 days early) there was a month where no payment was taken (either on the 11th or the 28th) - this may have been down to the date you requested the change
I agree they should either have advised of an extra part-month payment required to reset the dd to a later date or they should have advised that missing a month would result in charges ongoing....good luck with your complaint0
