ok so passport ran out, want to use driving licence, its keeps saying driver number incorrect format, well theres only one way to write the drivers number in section 5 so what the hell are they talking about, cant get through to hmrc at all, trying for days, anyone an idea if they are asking for a different number than they claim

Strange! However, my wife has never driven and we have Irish passports which really confused the system. There was an option to state that one held neither and she was asked to enter some P60 details e.g. NI paid. Try that!0

Just a thought. Are you are entering the alpha characters of the driver number in upper case? It may make a difference0

My driving license number never ever verifies on anything...if Anybody has to use it for ID purposes they have to ring dvla...its annoying x0
