Car finance charges

Hi, I hope someone will be able to help. Back in 2019 I needed to change my direct debit date on my car finance because of change in circumstance. They told me there will be a monthly charge of £12 because of this. So I have been paying an extra £12 every month on top of my finance. My question is ‘ can they do this?’ Can they charge this every month.. I thought it would just be a one off payment that month. I haven’t spoken to them yet about this as I wanted to get some advice. 

On my statement it’s down as ‘management arrears’ . I took out my finance in 2018 always paid on the 28th of every month. I had to give up my job in 2019 to care for my daughter so I needed to change the date to 11th of every month. I’ve never missed a payment.

That doesn’t sound correct. Usually companies allow you to make the first date change free of charge as they appreciate people may want to budget with paydays.

My finance is through advantage finance

Never heard of them. The agreement that you should have a copy of should outline any charges.

Thank you for your reply, I’m going to ask them to send me a copy of my agreement as I don’t seem to have one.
