Pending finance decision

Hi. I recently applied for finance for a item worth around £1500.
It’s been over a week now since that application was referred with Hitachi and I haven’t heard anything. On the website I am buying the item from its says it usually takes 1-2 days for them to make a decision on referred applications so I gave them a call today.
I was left scratching my head as when the operator checked my application and checked with the department that deals with these decisions, she said that it’s still on going and that she couldn’t discuss it with me and that I’ll know what’s going on in a week or 2. When asked if I’d receive a letter or email, again she said can’t tell me and to wait out.

Although I’m fine to wait, I’m just a little puzzled by this? What are they checking? Surely it takes them minutes to decide and not weeks? Anyone had similar experiences to this who could fill me in on what’s going on?
Thanks
