This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Gers - thinking of you and your mum x
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Now getting light, dry underfoot, but cold start to the day.
DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here, DS1 getting ready for work, and DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was breaded chicken in rolls with salad, chips and a side of coleslaw - all enjoyed by the menfolk. I had fishcakes and salad. Tonight will be LO roast beef braised in gravy with mash, LO yorkshires, veg and gravy.
We had a short ride out yesterday then chilled for the remainder of the day.
Back to work today, hopefully things should now become clearer as some of the dates we've been given are getting closer so hopefully decisions will be made and we can start to move forward or know what is to happen.
Keep safe and well x

Morning
Son and DIL came round on sunday, friend was here a couple of days before that. After seeing all those people and making all those coffees, I feel like I've had a really hectic week and need a few days to recover.
The pigeons are happily munching on the cherry blossom. Between them and the blackbirds, who like to eat whatever fruit manages to grow, I end up with about 20 cherries for myself.
I've never been that interested in shrubs and flowers before, I like to concentrate on fruit and veg. But this year I've been on a mission to save the old plants and am learning a lot. Mr tru will be out of a job, lol.
No gardening today, it's far too cold. I'll give the chicken shed a good scrub then make a start on sanding the banister. I've been putting it off, the thought of painting all those spindles makes me want to rip them all out and replace them with sheets of plywood, lol.

Good morning, and thanks for starting NMLCIt's cold again here, but bright. Yesterday the wind was absolutely bitter. We were at Dd's all day, Dh was cutting old wood up and taking it to the tip while Dd and partner were loading bricks from the old garage into his van and going to the tip, I think they're all on first name terms with the guys at the tip they were there so often! I was outside at intervals with the dog and Dgc's, then back inside. Dh has done well for an old chap of nearly 75 ! he's a bit achy this morning but ok.Today is a rest day, we won't be there, and they'll be tidying and sorting I think before starting again tomorrow breaking the old garage floor. Dd texted last night to say leave it for today.Tru, I sympathise about the spindles and banister, we did ours years ago, layers of paint removed then underneath there was varnish that was a b****r to remove. They were then varnished, We live in a street of old houses, late Victorian , and a lot of people have removed the spindles over the years and replaced with sheets of hardboard but the spindles look so much better. Mind , I'm saying that, I haven't forgotten what sheer hard labour it was doing them. We were young then and had the energy!Today I'll just be doing a bit of housework, and there's ironing to do. Last week I got my summer clothes out (is that hollow laughter I can hear) and gave them a light wash, some still need ironingThinking of Gers and her Mum, Snoozer's Steve and others who are struggling with life/health problems.Take care folks14

Morning folks and thanks NMLC. Blue blue sky and sunshine but oh so cold. Phone said minus 2 but feeling like minus 5 when I got up! It is to get marginally warmer as the day goes on.
So back to no plans after my w/e of socialising! I must clean the oven out today and tackle the dishwasher filter, once I have emptied it! I was too tired last night. I tried to get the washing machine filter out yesterday as that must be well clogged but I couldn't shift it. I'll give it another go today.
I defrosted 2 sea bass fillets in chilli and lime yesterday and had one with salad and baby roasts at tea time.. OMG my mouth was on fire when I had finished it. The other is in the fridge to be eaten today but I will try and scrape off as much of the topping as I can before I cook it! I also made a pan of lentil soup so that's lunches for the next few days sorted, with the usual salad wrap or bagel.
Have a good day folks and ((HUGS)) for all our poorlies or sad. GERS I hope your haircut went well. I am booked for our mobile hairdresser to come next Monday and I cannot wait. My hair is beyond redemption now and I can't do a thing with it. Take care one and all xx"If you dream alone it will remain just a dream. But if we all dream together it will become reality"13 -
Morning All
I had my jab yesterday morning and all was fine until about 5pm when I started to feel unwell. A long, long night of shivers, aches and general yuckiness but do feel a little better this morning although I may go back to bed once I've had my cup of tea.
Made up the children's beds yesterday so that room is all tidy, also gave the fire a good clean - I must phone the chimney sweep later.
Lovely sunshine yesterday but it was bitterly cold with a covering of hail about 6pm, nice and bright again this morning so may put the washing out.
Hugs to all those in need, take care. XX13 -
Morning folks. Thanks for starting us off nmlc. Tru - it's lovely to see the blossoms start to appear.I am shorn! 🎉 It only took 15 minutes to wash and chop seven months of growth of my hair and boy, it feels so good. The salon was so busy in a socially distanced way, I was in a room right at the back of the building away from the blaring music, a double joy. I took in some cakes from the Italian deli for the staff, by the time I left most cakes had been scoffed. 😅On the way to the hairdressers I got rid of the mountain of food waste and a small quantity of bottles. Today I'll be taking away the cooking oils and the umpteen cardboard boxes, I need the space for the next lot which is already on the kitchen table waiting to be dealt with. There's one box dated BBE 1992 and two BBE 1993. Then there's a packet of Farina potato flour also with a date of 1992 which I discovered late on. 😢DM had a mixed day, she wasn't too good but was determined to get up to do some painting. She only managed an hour sitting out and barely made it back to bed for lunch. In the evening she started a cull of the many many photo albums. Lots of photos were binned early on and later I had to scan loads before they too were binned. I'll sort the scanned ones into different folders so they are easily accessible on her laptop. I've already emailed a small number to a couple of her friends showing good times from many years ago.Enough waffling...my thoughts are turning to our poorlies, perhaps the odd nibble of Easter chocolate helped a little. Happy Tuesday to all.12

Morning all! Brrrr or what?! I had a shower yesterday and put my hair in a ponytail thing before it was dry. It looks very amusing today. I didn't get coffee and sugar yesterday so I will have to get it today and probably a new battery for the car unless the alternator has gone in which case, better ring the mechanic and ask him to have a look. I have nothing definite planned today except take OH to work after but if it does get sunny I will cut the grass. I caved in yesterday and ordered a cordless hoover. I just can't use the one we have, it's too heavy for me even if it is a really good one and there's nothing wrong with it. We won't be getting rid of it though because OH can still use it perfectly well. It's pretty much only me for food for the rest of the week so I don't have to plan that hard for me. I'll be taking adavantage of the OHs absence to have things I like and he hates, like home made hummus and cassoulet and things with legumes...:)tru, I know what you mean. If I have two things to do in one day, like an appointment and a shopping visit, I feel like I've been super busy and am knackered. This sitting around has really lowered my motivation, ability and perception of things. And we removed the hardboard from out staircase shen we moved in, I took all the paint off and never varnished or stained after, so I'm just going to paint the two main bits top and bottom and get some new swanky spindles at some point...After I sand them down again...Snoozer, your tops sound cool, any chance of a pic? Nanny, you have been a busy bee! I'm impressed..and also tired
Gers, I was also intrigued so I googled a bit. Look up Feuerzangenbowle
Nelski, funnily enough I have some pork and I love crackling...I may emulate you later on this week or next weekend...Right, I'm orf to find something for breakfast, take care of yourselves today,be nice to yourselves...
Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi13 -
Taff - thanks for that! I looked up Feuerzangenbowle which was interesting. However, I have never seen this done in Germany during all my years there and it's not something my DM ever did either. I'll ask my cousin about it.12

Morning all the weather is decidedly chilly but the sun is shining . I should go shopping today but i have quite a list from the big house of things i need to take over there later on this weekend if we have any viewings we were supposed to have 4 on saturday but only 1 turned up i could see them on the camera in the garden looking at next door when we came home we noticed next doors satellite dish and receiver have been covered in tin foil DH reckons they think they will get a better signal what with that and the weird neighbour 3 doors down and his ikea hoardings fence and bed sheet fence on top of his extension i am feeling a little despondent never mind there is always a plan B.
Gers I am glad mum managed to do a little painting yesterday and the pantry of doom is growing ever smaller
I know someones DD was taken into hospital I am sorry i can't remember who it was but I hope they have got to the cause of the problem and she is on the road to recovery
Nels hope the hands have warmed up
Dumpling, Snoozers Steve and Marie thinking of you all as well as all those who are unwell looking after poorlies or just fed up
Have a good day stay warm and safe xx

taff and anyone else who might be interested, quite a lot of my sewing is on instagram where I am sue_sandy I've realised that at least one of the tops waiting to be quilted is so old it's not on the insta account, I must finish it this year.
It looks so inviting outside but having had a brief walk yesterday I think I will stay in, the wind was so cutting it made my sinuses ache for hours. Steve made dinner, pork saltimbocca, new pots, broccoli, carrots and cabbage. Tonight I will be making carbonara.
Gers, I hope your mum manages a bit more painting today. dp1 I hope DD is feeling better and they get to the bottom of her problem soon it sounds so debilitating, especially with a little one to look after.13 -
Morning all.
It's bright, sunny and freezing here. I feel guilty about wrapping myself up and find it impossible to feel cosy when the sun is shining. I am very exacting in my climate requirements, but nobody listens.
I've been watching the pigeons snogging on next doors roof. Honestly, they are a real comic turn all by themselves.
nmlc do you think that you will actually get to hear what the new plans for you will be soon? You seem to have been waiting for ever. It must be nerve racking.
dp I hope that you feel a bit better today. If it's any comfort, the friend who had her jab done the same time as me had a horrific reaction. She was completely wiped out, couldn't eat or drink, dreadful cough, temperature, not one gram of energy. In fact she can't remember a thing for a week after the jab. It was 4 weeks until she felt even a tiny bit better and a good 8 or 9 weeks before she felt anywhere near normal. The doctor said that it actually was just an extreme reaction. We've just had our second jab and she has had no reaction at all. I hope you do better than that.
A friend is bringing me round some rhubarb this morning. It seems a bit early, even for here, but she says that it is growing well.
Keep warm everyone.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Have trouble remembering how to fly.13
