Not happy with redundancy offer

Hello
been working for company for 15 years . Job role is being made redundant .
New roles offered ( basically same job different title but they want to pay less wages )

settlement agreement is not good . Basic statutory money and only 3 months wage  as enhanced payment and they want me to work the 12 weeks notice .

what’s the best way to negotiate a better deal ?

There's not.  Ask to work fewer hours in compensation for the reduced salary is one option.

Presumably you've found a new job at a better rate of pay to go to.

What makes you think they'll offer one? If they've offered you suitable alternative employment (and a lower wage doesn't automatically make it unsuitable, however annoying) and you reject it, you're already on thin ice.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

If you can prove that in a tribunal, then the role is not redundant.

In the UK, a person doesn't get made redundant, their role does. A company can find themselves in a pickle if they make someone redundant then immediately get someone else to do that same job.

But that aside, if they're complying with the law, then I'm afraid there's not much you can do about it.

If it is statutory there is no need for a settlement agreement if a genuine redundancy.

How much lower is the pay if that is the only difference in the role?

If you are 100% sure on this I would be involving the union. You can not make a position redundant to then open it up again at a lower salary.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

"Basically same job" isn't "Same job".  The employer would only need to remove a couple of responsibilities to avoid any potential issues.  My concern, should I be in the OPs position, would be those responsibilities being added back into the job, on the lower salary, at a later date.

How does a settlement agreement enter into the situation?
  • "basically the same job different wages"

Possibly - but the OP doesn't give enough info* to be able to say.

If the OP is describing it as a "redundancy" I presume there is some commercial or economic etc reason to restructure roles and perhaps the company has decided they need fewer of them - even though the description may remain basically the same.

So they only need eight bottom-knockers and not ten.

*sort of thread that can become drip drip.

    3k different
    £3k of what?
the % makes a difference as they could just reduce the wage if it is not that big a % by going through consultation.

might be why they are offering a settlement agreement giving you the option to leave with a payout rather than have to resifn if you don't want the job at a lower pay.
