Can temp workers get a mortgage?

My partner and I are looking to buy a house. We have a 60% deposit, but we lost our jobs during COVID, so I've just started a permanent, full-time low-wage job, and my partner has started a part-time, non-permanent job with guaranteed hours.
The non-permanent job thing is causing problems. It seems many mortgage providers will not take non-permanent wages into account unless you've been working the job/industry for a significant period of time. Halifax online calculator refused outright, without even asking us how much we wanted to borrow.
Are there any mortgage providers or products for people in this position?
Any help appreciated.

@tofuA How long a break in employment did your partner have? Is it in the same line of work as they did previously? Generally speaking, you need a bit of track record to show if this is a fresh fixed term contract and sufficient time remaining on the contract.

@K_S My partner was doing a bit of freelance for about 6 months after their employment ended. Their new job is a different line of work to their employment of the last 2-3 years, but it's something they've worked in several times before.
Having now spoken to Halifax in person, it seems they're happy with any employment so long as we can provide letters from the employer, guaranteeing hours.0
