Has anyone used Redbubble to sell their designs?

😀 Hi, I’m toying with the idea of trying to scan some of my drawings/ textile work / collages etc and upload to redbubble to see if I can sell some of them when printed on different items .
As far as I can see it’s free to join - is that right ?
I know I won’t make much per item , but thought it might trickle in as a sort of passive income.
Has anyone done this ? Any tips ? Or things I should be wary of etc
thanks

I have been with Redbubble for almost three years and can confirm that it is free to join. I have about 1400 pictures on there and have sold 67 for £54.49 but of course you may well do better than I have.

Thanks @chrisbur, glad to hear it’s free. I think I’ll give it a shot , if I’m not going to loose anything it’s worth a try. I’m planning to photograph drawings etc using my iPhone - do you think that will be good enough quality- resolution wise? Or am I better scanning things ?

Not had experience of either so could not really say.  I would suggest trying both and looking at the result at 100% to see if there is one better than the other.  As far as I know nothing is checked by Redbubble when you submit something it seems to appear on the site very quickly; I suppose the only danger if something is of lower quality is that the buyer might return an item for a refund.

Ah ok , I thought it might give you guidance on the site as to whether the quality was good enough. Thanks for your help @chrisbur

I had a Redubble, However I`ve now been suspended. They can close or suspend you for the slightest thing whether it`s copyright, breaking rules, abusing the system etc. I wouldn`t say the CS is the best but it`s not the worse. Even though i`m suspended I still had orders coming through strangely and if you do get suspended it doesn`t exactly give you a timeframe how long you`re suspended for from what I remember, It can be up too a year from what I`ve read or until they unlock your account. Very frustrating as I was beginning to pick up business.

As long as your work is original work I would not expect any problems.  However in your OP you mention collages which could have copyright problems.  Redbubble has a bit here about them....

As with any site like this it is best to have a read of all rules and conditions.

Thanks @chrisbur I’ll check out that link . I’m planning for it to all be my own original artwork , so even if mixed media etc it won’t be using images from magazines or artwork / clip art etc so should be ok .

I'm not sure any of those are things you can criticise them for. All of those things would be against their terms and conditions, so you'd expect some action.

I don't want that to come across quite as nasty as it probably does in writing, but if your designs contain copyright infringements (and I'm not saying yours do, but it was in your list) then I'd expect them to put a lid on it as soon as they are aware of it. If another RB user steals something from one of your original designs that you've spent hours and hours creating, you'd expect them to do the same to protect your property, too.

Redbubble do have an arrangement where some copyright material can be used called the Fan Art Program.   Not in my line so have not read all the details but if anyone is interested details are here top row in the middle....
