There is an issue getting cover for Seacation cruises as many of the insurance companies are classing it as being in the UK, despite being told that there is no NHS onboard a ship at sea.

Thank you MSE, this is a very helpful guide. Please could you add a note that several of the insurance companies suggested for UK travel for people aged 65+ do not offer cover for people aged 80+.

We are aboard a P & O cruise around the Scottish Islands in August but can only obtain the required insurance is we pay between £175 and £250 pounds, each! I am on a Saga river cruise on the Rhine for 13 days and have only had to pay £60. Can anyone advise me of a cheaper alternative please? Many thanks. Betty0

My problem is with UK ferry cancellations. What should travel insurance cover if delay is 11 hours and holiday abandoned?0

The wording in all the UK travel insurance policies I've checked include cancellation cover if "You have been denied boarding at your UK departure airport due to detected symptoms of COVID-19" but make no mention of other forms of transport. While getting online quotes,I've noticed that all insurers seem to have made the same mistake of assuming that people only go on holiday by air (or cruise ship), ignoring coach and rail travel, completely!
I queried this with Southdown Insurance who replied:"We can confirm that the cover would apply to other methods of transport. However, there would need to be evidence that the intended passenger was turned away and why in the event of denied boarding due to detected symptoms of COVID-19. The airlines and airports have introduced structure to the testing process, we are unaware of such methods being implemented at train or coach stations etc and who would have authority to make decisions on a day to day basis."
So, I'm still left wondering whether the insurance would pay out, in the event of the one of the people covered by the policy developing Covid-like symptoms shortly before the holiday commences. The documentation from the coach operator I holiday with says that they reserve the right to refuse boarding to anyone with such symptoms, though on a recent holiday, they didn't actually ask or, for example, check anyone's temperature.0 -
Hi, I am looking at uk family insurance policies. I have booked a cottage, if I was ill and had to cancel, would I be able to claim the full amount with one excess (£90) or would we all have to claim and pay 4 excesses?0

Hi, We've not bothered over much about trip insurance for UK holidays but as we become more mature(!) thought it would be worth considering. Have just got a online quote from Leisure Guard for a single trip, two people for a week, for which we declared pre-existing medical conditions. They came back with ~£24, which seemed ok given the MSE article indicated from £14.26. However having expected to then pay for cover, their system came back with a screen with both of our health details and the option to cover them. When I clicked on 'no thanks' the system said 'in that case we can't cover you! When out of interest I changed it to 'cover' they wanted just under £80 (and no that's not a mis-type). What a waste of time!
