What is the perfect amount of underpants?

I've recently brought a 10-pack of new pants (on offer, of course), and since it's been delivered I've been beginning to wonder, what is the optimum amount of pants an adult should own?
One for each day of the week would be a good start, but also seems like too little and doesn't factor in possible wear and tear. On the other hand, now I've got 10 more pairs than I had before, do I actually have too many pants? And would it be more MoneySaving to hold back some of the pants, until others had started retirement.
I have to admit, my previous thoughts on this question have been brief, but has anyone discovered the perfect amount of pants to own at any one time, or have a formula for working it out?

Depends on what colour they are, how much of your other washing is similar colours so that you can wear, wash and dry before running out. If there's a formula for it, it will have to take account of how many other people live in your house and how much their clothing interacts with your own.

Panties are a whole world of how many, what colours, when do I toss them?
They can be an impulse buy. I'm guilty of adding a pair or two to an online order to get free postage.
I realized the other week I might have been keeping mine too long when I realized my "favourite" pair was almost see through and how comfortable a brand new pair felt.
I did look in the knicker drawer. I gave up counting when I read 37 pairs.3 -
You only need two. One in use, the other being washed.
You might want one or two extra for emergencies, just in case1 -
The main consideration is how many you need so you can organise laundering that’s efficient use of the washing machine and detergent, in the context of the other laundering requirements you may have.Posts are not advice and must not be relied upon.3

Is this a real question?

So much to read, so little time.2 -
I think it depends on frequency of doing the laundry - at uni for example, the machines were huge, but pricey (relative to income) so I had enough smalls to go 2-3 weeks if necessary. These days the (smaller) machine is sat in my kitchen and costs nothing to use (effectively) so I wash them more frequently - I probably do 2 -3 loads a week in total for the two of us.
