6 month sabbatical and NI payments?

My wife is taking a 6 month sabbatical from work and wont be working during this time.

She will return to her job after that.  Her company are keeping her job open, and she is accruing annual leave, and she retains her tenure, etc.

The company wont be paying her during this time.

What should she do with regards to NI payments for this period?

I did this and you just pay the voluntary top up contributions for the year. I did it the next year but I think you have 6 years to complete - double check though so you don't miss out.
Forty and fabulous, well that's what my cards say....

She needs to check her State Pension forecast on gov.uk, ensuring she reads the whole thing not just the likely headline of £175.20, to see if it is actually worthwhile making up any shortfall.

If she needs say 10 years to get to £175.20 and expects to be adding an additional 20 years by working in the future it could be argued it is a waste of money.

Not necessarily anything. If she will have enough full years to get the maximum state pension when she reaches State Pension Age, paying voluntary NI contributions is a waste of money.
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!

It may be that the NI paid while working will be enough to make up the minimum needed to count as a full year's contribution.
