    Sounds like battery or alternator to me too but my mechanical knowledge is extreemley limited :p:o

    Thanks, I only come to Leeds for Uni. Live 60 miles from there. Just going to wait for hubby to come in. Had a look on AA website and they have some nifty little audio clips to listen to of car noises and listening to them it sounds like a weak battery, not a flat one.

    Thats the trouble Keren, it won't start :(

    Had a listen at some of the other clips too and there is one for a slipping drive belt (alternator belt) and the car has been making that noise too so could be that. Now we will have the fun of trying to get the car to a garage!
