Checked my latest Council Tax Bill - The Figures are wrong

For 2024/2025 this is the response I received from Wokingham BC:

Unfortunately Adult Social Care is quite a complex calculation but I shall try and explain the process.

Adult Social Care

With regard to the Adult Social Care and the Wokingham Borough Element these are not straight percentage increases as we are governed by a different set of regulations when showing the percentage change to the previous year

Starting with the ASC element, it is important to note that the Adult Social Care 2% increase is based on the overall council tax charge (the council tax base amount which includes both WBC and ASC amount) from last year and not just a straight increase against the previous year’s adult social care amount.

You also have to add on the accumulated ASC amount from last year.

To get the ASC increase you always take the band D amount then apply the banding ratio depending on what band calculation you require.

To simplify - take last year 23/24 band D WBC amount including ASC element that is £1521.37 + £230.47 = £1751.84

£1,751.84 / 100 x 2% = £35.04 and add on the £230.47 from last year = £265.51

Then apply the relevant ratio (as below) to get the band F charge £265.51/ 9 x 13 = £383.51

 A = 6/9              E = 11/9

B = 7/9                F = 13/9

C = 8/9               G = 15/9

D = 9/9               H = 18/9

Conclusion

I understand that these calculations can and do lead to some confusion, however Wokingham Borough Council is required to comply with the legal requirements for calculating both the WBC element and the ASC element.
