Returning to Work with Back Problem?

I've been off work with acute back pain for 2 weeks and I am due to go back in a few days time. The pain is much improved but the problem is still there constantly. 

I've had two sessions of physio which has helped and I do the hourly excises which also provide some relief. I am currently still limping and struggle to do simple tasks like putting on socks. Occupational Health say that it could take up to 7 weeks to recover but are happy for me to go back on phased return when my fit note ends this week. 

As I deal with unstable loads (patients) I am a little worried about undoing my progress. 

I am going to discuss phased return and the unlikely possibility of lighter duties with management before heading back. 

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Assuming the OH has been arranged by your employer they would be very ill advised not to follow the advice provided.  If your employer isn't willing to accept their recommendations I would be speaking to my GP to extend the medical certificate / fit note.
