HI All
I realised yesterday that I can officially call myself a convert! Ive been trying hard to get into the mindset of being frugal, having NSDs, mealplanning and budgeting and have done quite well since October, however I did wonder if I was just on a slippery slope of a newbie and would I find myself once again paying for lunches at work, buying food from the supermarket ad lib etc etc, until yesterday.............I had booked the afternoon off work so didnt bother preparing and bringing in lunch, my plans changed and I ended up staying at work and wanted to eat, my only option was to buy a sandwich from the canteen. Something I havent done in weeks....and I was absolutely gobsmacked to have to pay £1.75  for a blt. (Now I know I could have gone hungry but 3 meals a day has helped to lose weight) Anyway the way I feel about spending that money makes me truly believe that I have successfully made it to a convert and will not slip back to my old ways.
At which point did you realise that you had made it to the lofty heights of a permanent frugal moneysaver?:D

I realized this when I had to pay full price for a loaf of bread. I usually have a load of reduced good quality bread in freezer but having to pay £1.20 really annoyed me. I do not post now on shopping challenge as I have reached the
level I am happy with. I now do gas and electric meter readings each week and it makes my day when I see I have saved on either one or both. Doing this made me realize how much my fan oven was costing so now use the slow cooker or the small top oven. I do not browse the clothes shops now but just go in to buy something I know I need. Saving a fortune on make up and creams by using up all the jars I have stashed away. I never throw veggies away but plan meals to use every last piece also I now make soups.
OH laughed at first but now he is as bad as me. I could not change now.;)0 -
I realised this about a month ago when i could not keep away from reading all the really long OS threads on the various ways and means of money saving. I am now totally addicted to spending less and to trying to make as many days as i can No Spend Days...in fact, on days when i do spend i really do feel disappointed!Grocery Challenge for October: £135/£200

I realised that I was frugal when I could pass by all the 70% off sales in the town this month and not feel that I should rush in just to check that I haven't missed a bargain:D I've instead taken a practical approach and only bought a few things that I can either put away as presents or bits that needed replacing like my slippers.....although can't absolutely guarantee that this state of affairs will permanently last:rotfl::rotfl:

Oh me too! I have so much enjoyed reading some of the threads in this forum, and I really feel like it's made a difference to the way I think about spending - I love marking my NSDs in my spending diary!0 -
I realised a while back that my health depended on it... ie: making home cooked food is so much more nutritious, less packaging, and cheaper! The pre-cooked stuff has so many additives, tastes bland and costs the earth...
Now we make lunches at home and 'scratch cook' almost every meal.
I even made my own diary this year instead of paying the usual £6-£8, and printed my own wall calendar instead of paying £5 in the shop. Click my username for my blog for more bits and bobs I have done round the home to save cash!
I also mark 'NSD' on each diary page for every day I do not spend.. 'NSD1' right through... most I have managed so far is 21 days I think!MFW #185

I get a reminder of the different world me, hubby and little fella live in when we visit my brother and his family. They find it inconceivable that we make our own bread, cakes and biscuits and that we don't buy a different cleaner for evry room!! Just good old white vinegar and stardrops with some aromatherapy oil thrown in.
They also find it odd that we don't have any kind of playsation or wii and that our toddler is only allowed an hour of tv in the morning and one after tea!! We take long walks in the woods on a sunday morning, hold hands and collect leaves and pine cones which to them is strange lol!Keely0 -
