Ok DVD players are so ridiculously cheap nowadays that zoom options come as standard. Although just because they don't have a widescreen tv doen't mean they need a zoom option. You can pick up a basic tv player for between £20 - £30 from asda or tesco.
Most dvd players will be able to view photos so you dont really need to worry about the cd-rw and dvd-rw options (My dvd player is 4 years old and I can view my holiday photo's easily)
Here's one at tesco for about £25
