    Looks like we are back to my comment
    But there is some debate as to when the payments become effective with a possibility that the increased pension only starts from the date of payment rather than backdated to retirement age.

    I wonder if DWP, who actually pay the State Pension, would say the same??
    Now you've made me wonder who I actually spoke to. It was the number on the "Check your State Pension forecast" page, though that is a "tax.service" page. I chose the options that took me to the buying VNICs department. He certainly had access to my pension details and seemed to know what he was talking about..

    He was very definite that it wouldn't be backdated - I don't think I asked, he just told me that would be the case. Why should it be? It makes no sense to be that generous with the taxpayers' money..

    Why does it need to make sense ?   Class 2 NICs for ex pats, effectively a one off payment of £3.05 giving you £5 a year for life !

    This is what I'm doing here in Australia. It seems to make no economic sense, but I'm grateful for it.
