Hi there, I was wondering if this fitm are real ?
They called me about a tax rebate from this number
0113 320 3216 and proceeded to ask questions about a tax claim.

Said they worked on behalf of HMRC to help people claim a tax rebate.

Yes they are a rel firm.

Said they worked on behalf of HMRC to help people claim a tax rebate.

That does not sound correct as HMRC does not employ third party companies to do that.

  • Has all the hallmarks of something to not touch with a barge pole - call out of the blue and dangle the possibility of cash to hook you in

If HMRC know you have a tax rebate due, you get it automatically through PAYE or you can reclaim yourself if under self assessment, never employ firms to do it.

They have a claims company site for Marriage Allowance claims.

    https://marriagetaxrebates.co.uk/#about-us

This is something couples can do for free via gov.uk if they prefer not to pay a claims company to put a stamp on a letter.

4.7.1 As a result of any Claim in which money is recovered from HMRC You agree to pay Us 35% plus VAT with the addition of a £100 plus VAT [£120] If your tax refund amount does not cover our administrative fee of £100 plus VAT [£120] we will retain the equivalent amount and confirm that no additional charges or costs will apply. Where there is no payment released/ recovered from HMRC you do not have to pay us anything.

There are many companies out there that cold call andt will get you a tax rebate whether you are actually due one or not by submitting false claims.  The problem comes when HMRC reviews the year and find you owe them that amount, you have to pay the whole amount back as you are responsible for your affairs but the company have done a runner with 42% of it that you ain't gonna get back !
  • BEWARE!!!
MARRIAGE ALLOWANCE TAX is a one off claim. HMRC adjust your account accordingly for future years after initial claim. BE WARY IF ENGAGING A THIRD PARTY FOR SOMETHING WHICH CAN EASILY BE DONE YOURSELF - FOR FREE!!

This Wyndan group are a total rip off,  they researched a PPI claim for me in 2019,  I heard nothing then out of the blue earlier this year I get an email sayng I owe them £235,  they said they had been ringing me, i tried to explain to them I dont answer calls I dont recognise and surely if it was that important then they should of left me a voice mail.  They said I was sent a cheque for £791 in May 2020,  I said no and I could prove that no cheque had been presented to my bank either.  It turns out they had got my address wrong and sent the cheque to the wrong place and had ddecided after 2 years they wanted their fee,  after weeks of battling I managed to get my PPI  refund by contacting the companywho owed it me myself and explained everythig to them as Wyndan didnt want to know all they wanted was their fee.  I paid their fee after the cheque had cleared in my bank.  Today I got a letter from HMRC saying I was owed £75.17 tax refund and my cheque has been sent to the Wyndan group!  Im horrified as I have not instructed them to do any tax claims on my behalf,  looking in their terms and conditions it says I must pay a fee of £75 plus vat plus an admin fee of £100  plus 35% of my claim,  how can that be right when my tax refund is only £75.17 in the first place.  It says they will do tax claims every year, I dont want them too how can I stop them?  Im in a state of panic now as they have caused me nothing but hassle.  I had an email back on march saying something about claiming back the tax I paid on the PPI claim, i may have clicked on the link but surely I needed to confirm something if I wanted them to check this out, the other think in their terms and conditions it says you have 14 days to change your mind, how can you change your mind if you dont know if you have agreed  to anything as I have received no email/letter/text etc to say I have.  Anyone else had these issues, How do you get Wyndan to back off.

Report them to everyone for fraud
  • These companies cottoned on quite early that the PPI gravy train would dry up so started putting in clauses saying they could also do things like tax rebates. You are unfortunate that you didn't read this when you signed up to it, but you can at least put in a complaint and demand they end your contract and do not process any more complaints for you.

Lesson learned hopefully - you were scammed on PPI and scammed on PPI complaints and further scammed on the tax element, don't go signing up for things without reading them and don't pay a company to do a free complaint you can do yourself
