Volunteer work mileage, P87 claim?

Hi 
I am a volunteer and I am able to reclaim mileage for the work I do from my 'employer' at 25ppm. When I was working full-time I was able to put in a P87 claim form as I was paid less than the Govt approved 45ppm rate. As a volunteer, am I able to do the same? I am on a pension and am a tax payer. I have had a look around online and can't find anything definitive.

What income do you have from the organisation you volunteer for which an expenses claim would reduce?

I don't have any income from the organisation that I volunteer for. 
If that means I can't claim then that's the answer I was looking for!

You can only claim relief against the tax paid on the income from the same source as the mileage claim is for.
If you receive no income then the  amount of relief due is nil.

Thank you for clarifying that. When I was working, I didn't consider why I was able to claim, I just knew that I could! It was just something that came to mind a few days ago. I suspected I wouldn't be able to claim, but didn't know why, now I do!
