Guttering dispute

I had my guttering re done last March and it looks great.  In Monday of this week my neighbour's landlord fixed his and in doing so has left a 75mm gap between both our houses.  My contractor put an end cap at both the front and back of my guttering even though my house is a mid terrace..he stated this was better? Any way the landlord has done the same...he added an end cap at the front leaving a 2mm gap and one at the backwith the 75mm gap....When questioned he blamed my contractor for cutting his guttering and moving it....this never happened and there are puctures to prove this. He didn't even have the decency to chap my door and let me know what was happening.  Where do I stand with this? He said after many texts he will fix it when he has time but the gap is between both houses and will cause damage to both properties in our fine Scottish weather.....

Without photos it is hard to comment. However, I would suggest your contractor was at fault fitting end caps and leaving a gap in what was previously a continuos gutter(?) makes no sense. I would reinstate the guttering (at my cost).

  • I agree with Missile in general.
I cannot understand why your contractor thought that end caps would be better it may be that is has affected good drainage to your or neighbours guttering!

A 75mm gap is not huge but could be to the detriment of both properties. You have too much to loose by risking damage, do you not, so reinstatement is probably best. You would need to remove both end caps to do so and that would need the landlord's permission so you should approach them in the first instance to get agreement. They might even chip in with the cost but I would not expect it!
