Hi Everyone - Iv'e Not Forgotton You All - My Pc Has Blown Up

Hi Everyone

I will not be on here for a while and have no idea when I will be back again.

On Sat 1st Dec we had a power cut, but just prior to the a massive power surge... It has taken out both the mother board and the power supply.

An engineer came out and has had to order the parts, but has no idea of how long it will take for them to arrive.

Sorry everyone, I am totally lost without this site and all your support.

Very worried about not being able to access my bank account online daily too

I've had something similar happen. Mine took out the hard disks as well. My surge protection obviously didn't work as it should.

Hopefully yours will be OK. :)

If you have a Focus DIY nearby that is closing down they may have some mains protector 4-way adaptors as a good price. I think the were 40% off in my local store.

  • Well what a nightmare!!!

I am now back at last, but not cos my pc is fixed as it is not yet done.

Well the story so far... my computer was taken out by a power surge before a power cut on the 1st Dec. phoned up the tech guys as my computer is under waranty and the sent someone out on the 4th and said that the power supply and the mother board have been taken out by it..

They had to order the parts and would arrange another visit to fit them once they were in.. well got a letter dated the 11th dec saying that the parts were now in and they could fix it on the 18th dec but i had to confirm that i still wanted the repair done or they would cancel.

Well i phoned them on the 12th to say yes please and was told that it was now booked in and that they would be around on the 18th.:j

Also phoned back a couple of days later to check everthing was still in order, was told yes.

Phoned them on the 18th to get an approx time and they said that I had not confirmed that it still needed to be done so the job had been cancelled and that the parts had now been given to someone else.

Now they have to order the parts again and i have to wait another 3 weeks!!!

So decided I could not be without the internet any more (hate not being able to check the bank accounts etc) and bought myself a laptop... on a 0% credit card of course...

I am livid I can tell you... but i am back

Grrr  on your behalf! I hope you get some sort of compensation from the original company for the rubbish service. Another 3 weeks to wait is a heck of a time too!

    Anyway, welcome back!!

  • Thanks hypno.

I have really missed this place. and not having the internet made me feel like my legs had been cut off!

The good news was I got a really good deal on the laptop though. not that expensive really. thought i would have to spend alot more than i did spend.
  • Ouch!!!!! I would seriously complain to those people who were supposed to be fixing it.. could you get a refund if it was under warranty or something.. failing that flog the old one once it's fixed lol.
We had a similar thing happen years ago when lighting hit a telephone line a few miles away and it took out our modem but luckily nothing else!

Computers eh? Good to see you back though.. was wondering where you'd gone!
