That is appalling. A lender making a mortgage offer and then withdrawing it is disgusting in my view. I can't believe Santander think it's acceptable not to make these checks before they grant a mortgage. Instead they opt to put their customer in a stressful situation. Unbelievable. I hope you get it sorted, and make sure you make an official complaint.

In a highly regulated world and legalized world, they have to cover their backs, something came up in an audit and they have every right to ensure they cross the I's and T's.

An offer is not legally binding until it is drawn down on completion, just a buyer can cancel the offer and go somewhere else.

They can also do final credit checks and a forum user here had their offer withdrawn for taking out new credit on a car.

If the bank hadn't done this, they could be partly liable from the ombudsman for giving out a mortgage to someone who may not be able to afford it with the new credit. Nothing in there about the customer being at fault but the bank sadly.

The customer sadly cannot be trusted anymore, not since regulation kicked in after the self declared mortgages problem years ago. So the Bank has to double and triple check.

Have you not wondered why it was easier to get a mortgage before the MMR rules? compared to now

The OP are within their right of making a complaint, wait 2 months and might be given a token gesture.

But complain/compo culture is part of the reason compliance is very strict now a days. Look at the various I got  Miss bought Miss sold my mortgage threads, of which none had a happy ending for the OPs'.

Hello, hope you can help. My offer has been withdrawn "temporarily". Was wondering which number you called to speak to them?
Hi unfortunately i cannot find the number it was quite a whole ago. It was the one on the top of the offer withdraw letter. They were very accommodating and I would say more than our solicitors ever were.

We were delayed but luckily we still managed to complete and not lose the purchase which is great.

They essentially just needed proof of ID from my partner which we sent a copy but they needed originals. When I asked them they just stated that some offers need extra information before completion.

I hope it goes well for you :-)
