Stamp Duty - 2nd Residential Property

After many attempts, and moving into the smallest rental in the history of man, we have had an offer accepted on a new home.
The girlfriend already owns a place that she is keeping (her parents live in it).
We were looking at a joint purchase, but because of the rules of Stamp duty, we would have to pay a considerable amount.  I have an AIP to fund the property purchase on my own.  This would, I believe mean we could make the purchase without paying the Stamp duty.
Does anyone know the impact further down the line?  If I wanted to add her to the property/mortgage?  If we were to get married?
