My partner is receiving universal credit & carers allowance, he is Totally frustrated with applying for jobs and nothing becomes of them. He is 47 so age isn’t on his side, 1 factory position with job 20 applicants that are mostly 30 years old & under.
He is now wanting to choose a new career in horticulture/landscape gardening.
Can he do a distance learning course that has a recognised qualification. How about funding?
He has only a CSC green labourer card. Employment Here is mostly handlers/packing in large

Warehouses, it’s fast paced and targets have to be met daily by wearing a digital wrist band showing a percentage that’s subjected to disciplinary action should u fall behind.
What is available as in training whilst receiving UC &. Carers Allowance
An online course ideally that has a recognised qualification. Can he apply for a grant?

He has always worked, confidence is being sucked out of him with depression setting in.
My partner is never asked to prove he is actively searching for work etc. Isn’t that a bit strange?

I can't answer your question about what courses are available whilst receiving UC, but has your partner tried looking at doing a first-aid course?
I became a qualified first-aider at 46yo, and it really re-invigorated my CV - I went from having my applications ignored to getting multiple job offers as soon as I was qualified. The course was three days long and £350 with the Red Cross (the same course is also done by St.John's Ambulance). I've had to do a refresher every three years, but my employer now pays for that. Ask the benefits staff if there is any help with this.
Employers are very keen to employ first-aiders these days. To arrive at an interview with that qualification already in place is something plenty of employers will look at very positively.
Good luck.Mortgage started: 31st October 2007

That’s a lot of money no wonder employers used to get angry should an employee drop out. My company used to put 5 through every 2 years. Yes he would be more employable. I myself are doing a open university free course but my partner needs to gain a qualification. I will google “free first aid courses” I can only but tryFiveMoreYears said:I can't answer your question about what courses are available whilst receiving UC, but has your partner tried looking at doing a first-aid course?
