    I'm quite risk averse, 42 and planning to increase my mortgage in the not too distant future. It also depends on where you're buying and likelihood of property prices increasing. If you can afford it then I don't see an issue. Also, if your pension pots are not looking great then there is a possibility that when you are approaching retirement you can downsize, with the increased property price/equity providing funds in retirement.
