David Lloyd 10 year membership

Options
Hi
Has anyone else been contacted about this. It basically locks in the current monthly price, less 30% for 10 years in one upfront payment. Any thoughts?

And if they go bankrupt ?  You move somewhere there isn't a DL ?
There are many other reasons why you may not get 10 years worth of membership.  Not a commitment Id pay for.

    I imagine that's a hefty upfront payment

I haven't seen about DL, but quite a lot of golf clubs do similar over the years for upfront cashflow on new projects.
As a poster above pointed out, can be a very high risk option which goes wrong if they go bust, the place falls below standards or you can no longer use it due to moving, ill health etc.
On the other hand it can be brilliant if you do continue to use it for 10 years at today's prices plus a discount as typically inflation tends to go one way (i.e. increase prices) rather than deflation being a common issue.
Sort of depends on future plans and how happy with risk you are.
  • Thanks for your comments. Just to confirm that there is a refund policy if I chose to leave or move away. I was concerned about DL going into administration or being bought out so I plan to pay by Amex for some protection. I am trying to make sense of it as I thought it was slightly front loaded if i cancel in the first 2 years. The refund is charged at a rate without the 30% discount which seems odd. If I cancel at year 5, I benefit, and if I cancel in year 7, I get no refund.
