  • CEOs of large companies are a different species to Homo Sapiens.  I’ve known a couple. Admire them. Don’t understand them. Worth the salary far more than celebrities and sportsmen.

Would not assume your friend does it for money.

"I've got enough money, but I could sure use some more". Seems like a very reasonable position, so no judgementalism from me.
It's certainly a free choice, for sure, but how many people on here with "more than enough income for my needs inc normal holidays/treats etc" would carry on pursuing even more?

I am trying to help out my nephew and nieces with things such as house deposits - its not about more money for myself.

Although time in the market (lump sum strait away) is statically better than 'timing the market', drip feeding money in could suite you.
If you do drip feed then decide on timings and stick to it or even better, set up standing orders. If you do it manually you will overthink things and risk timing the market again.
That is the sort of thing I am thinking off - buying in regular large blocks over maybe 6 months - though torn between standing orders versus buying whoever there is a dip..

I'm sure he doesn't . . . especially considering his relatively 'normal' lifestyle (ie no motor yachts, helicopters, flash cars etc).  But there's no doubt he's driven by something.
Entrepreneurs I've encountered. Get their buzz from the "business".  Remember once going to a wedding reception. Where the groom kept his bride and 300 guests waiting. While he spent 90 minutes on the phone tying up a multi deal with Sony in Japan for software licenses to the company's product.
