Student Loan Type
Hi,
A new company has just taken over my wife's place of work, and have changed her from student loan type 2 to student loan type 1. They are saying HRMC have told them to do this, but we have been given no indication of this and when she logs into the student loan portal it still says type 2. Can anyone advise on whether this is correct or not?
Thanks

Whether you are plan 1 or 2 depends on the year your did your study? When did your wife go to university and take the loans out?1

She started in 2015, which puts her firmly in Type 2 territory. I've asked her to push her employer for more information, as I find it odd that this change has happened at the same time the new company's payroll department has taken over the payment of wages, and that we haven't been sent notice of the change. It doesn't add up...DrEskimo said:Whether you are plan 1 or 2 depends on the year your did your study? When did your wife go to university and take the loans out?0 -
It doesn't.....it must be a mistake. You can't change plan type.1

Speak to SLC and/or HMRC directly, as has been said before, you don’t switch between plans - the plan that you’re on relates to when you took out your student loan, nothing more1
