Hello I pay child maintenance monthly to my 8yo boy. I was not married to mum and we split up 5 years ago.Mum now has a solicitor asking to access my assets. I’m worried because I own a house (mortgaged) with money I earnt pre relationship. Do I need to lawfully provide this? TIA

I can't see why you would have to provide this information to a solicitor. As far as I know the only bodies you would have to share information with, in relation to child maintenance, would be a court or the Child Maintenance Service. Ask why they want it, and say you will provide the information to a court via your solicitor. The comments I post are my personal opinion. While I try to check everything is correct before posting, I can and do make mistakes, so always try to check official information sources before relying on my posts.1

On what basis do you currently pay?
Is it a private agreement or via CMS?

I pay by CMS. They take into account my earnings and I always pay 100% of what they decide. Can she come for my assets too? I thought only if we were married. I think she wants to get part of the house even though she never contributed to any bills and only lived here for a year. in fact I gave her money as she didn’t have much.0

Why have they asked you to provide these details? They must have given a reason especially as they have threatened court.LBM Debt Total : £48,326.50
