Help with setting up as self employed

I'll start this off by saying I'm almost certain this is the wrong sub-forum for this thread, but I wasn't sure where it fit, so please can it be moved if necessary? Thanks
In an effort to become debt free, I'm now working a freelance job in the evenings to boost my income. I'm aware that after I have earned a certain amount (£1k I believe), that this needs to be reported correctly, and I need to pay tax on my earnings. I'll cross this threshold either in March or April.
Can anyone explain, in laymans terms, how I go about setting myself up as self employed and working out what tax I need to pay, or better still, point me in the direction of a dummies guide to doing this (to save you the time of explaining it)?
Thanks in advance, and apologies again for posting in the wrong place

You asked for a dummies guide and this one looks spot on - even the right title! https://rsaccountancy.co.uk/self-employed-tax/dreambig19 said:I'll start this off by saying I'm almost certain this is the wrong sub-forum for this thread, but I wasn't sure where it fit, so please can it be moved if necessary? RGoogling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!1 -
