Only £2880 per year allowed, who it comes from is irrelevant.

You can not make contributions to someone else's pension , not directly anyway.
Why not just open one your self ( takes a few minutes online ) . Then no problem for both of you to add £2880 each to your own pensions . I am assuming you are a non earner as well?0 -

Not exactly true- see https://techzone.adviserzone.com/anon/public/pensions/3rd-party-pension-conts
It seems that neither the OP or his wife (both under age 75) have relevant earnings for the purpose of tax relief. But they would both like to take advantage of a contribution of the "basic amount" - see

He has pension income or savings.
He can contribute £2880 to his wife's pension and the provider will claim and add tax relief of £720.
Neither he nor she can then make another contribution in the same tax year to double up on the tax relief!
He can also contribute £2880 to his own pension and the provider will claim and add tax relief of £720.
