UK women win £2.7bn top-up to underpaid state pensions

On the limited information provided I am wondering if my mum may fall into this category. She is almost 90 so it would be good if they can get their skates on....

Anyone come across any greater detail to check if could be in this category? I may help her to look at pension gateway account to see if there are any pointers.

  • Came on here to check who is valid for this as my mum likely is. Can't see much detail. Hope MSE does some kind of summary or calculator to see who might be getting this

I'm also thinking my Mom was not getting enough state pension.
Sadly both my parents have passed away.
My Dad passed in 2014 aged 91 and i dont have any record of his state pension details so i cant check the figures out. I remember my Dad received a good state pension because until he retired he had never been able to have any savings due to not being in a well paid job and he didnt have a private or company pension, He managed to save a decent amount of money after retirement
After my Dad passed my Moms health slowly went down hill and eventually needed a care home and she passed in 2019 aged 90.
Once my Dad passed i took over my Moms finances and presumed the small state pension she received was correct and it was never questioned

With this new info i think it would be worth checking this out but i have no idea where to start. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

    Just wondering how this happened.
When my father died all his state pension and SERPS pension etc was transferred to my mother - they were both born before 1940.
Her state pension went up from £85 a week (she only worked for about 15 years) to over £250 a week - and all we had to do was notify DWP of his death.
Is there of course a possibility she too might have been due more state pension while he was alive - doesn't look like it given the criteria? But how is she or any one else supposed to know if they aren't in the core group (i.e. spouses of men who turned 65 after 2008).

Currently the exercise is planned to take 5 years. You may have to be patient and wait a while.
