Performance related review

My partner has had a request to attend a "performance related review" "investigation" , it seems to be a standard letter . However there are zero specifics & about what this meeting will contain, it seems pretty unreasonable to effectively ambush someone without giving them an indication of what they might throw at her ?  Just wondering if this is legal in any way without going into more detail in the letter .

Thanks in advance

Does it say investigation in the request?
I have had many a performance review over time, most when working for Local Authority which basically looked at my last 12 months, what's gone well & what's not gone well, then it looked at what I hoped to achieve over the next 12 months & how my manager would assist me to do this.
  • Check the letter is correct?
Seems a lot of mistakes going on at the mo.
My very last employer sent a we accept your resignation after verbal chat letter, it was quite nice as it thanked me for working hard whilst there, it probably would have been ideal for future use, if it didn't give an incorrect last working date. Let's say I'm unsure how you can in accordance with letter leave on the 5th and be thanked for your resignation which happened on the 15th! Fortunately the P45 backs up the 15th.
I've had a potential new Employer send what appears to be one of their own 'very interesting' internal forms for reference collecting when you would have thought all they needed to ask was details to make their own checks, I cannot believe I need to send on reference form, it must be an error.

Performance reviews are standard, but using the term 'investigation' is not.  It would concern me too if I received anything worded that way if I had no idea of the context.  If claims are made regarding the OP's performance which they were unaware of prior to the meeting, they need to say so and ask why these issues hadn't been brought to their attention before.  In such a situation they also need to be careful not to make any comment which can be seen as agreeing that problems exist.

It is possible that it is an investigation meeting relation to performance issues which might result in disciplinary - but the key is investigation - it's not an ambush, it's the first step in the process and would involve asking about specific issues to see what he is able to tell them. It could be that what he tells them clears up any concerns and it goes no further.
If they have concerns once they have completed the investigation, the next step would be a formal disciplinary meeting and fr that, they would be expected to give him details of the the disciplinary issue was.
It's also possible that it is poorly worded and that it is a more general performance review
