If you missed the FIT incentive, you're pretty much stuck with the SEG tariff. Recently, Octopus tag teamed with Tesla to launch an impressive tariff of 11p for those with a power wall.  For the rest of us, Bulb's new tariff comes very close to the highest fixed rate available, besting Octopus's outgoing fixed rate of 5.5p.

Not earth shattering but a step in the right direction and hopefully, the beginning of competitive increases between players. I like Bulb because of its simplicity (one tariff for all) and because they purchase the highest amount of green gas and offset the rest. If you'd like a referral link to join Bulb, feel free to PM me.

That's funny because, over on the SpeakEV forum there's a similar thread about Bulb *reducing* their SEG payments to 3p. It would seem that the increase is only for people who also have their supply with Bulb.

A number of people are with Octopus for the Go tariff but with Bulb for their SEG payments because Octopus don't allow customers to have both Go and the fixed SEG payments with them. It's all turning into quite a mess!

I view this as a positive development. Yes, it isn't ideal for non-Bulb importers but only fair that if you purchase from Bulb, you deserve to be paid the most.

It just seems unlikely that many people with the sort of attitude required to install solar panels would be likely to pay the very high Bulb unit rate. I do increasingly find it hard to fathom many decisions that people make though.

I think you're implying that people who spends thousands to reduce carbon emissions won't go with a "green" utility provider like Bulb, because their rate is lower than most but slightly higher than some providers?

I'm implying that people (like me) who make big investments with the intention of both reducing their CO2 emissions and their monthly outgoings - the sort of people who keep spreadsheets tracking their energy usage and EV economy - are likely to switch to a significantly cheaper (but still "100% renewable") supplier than Bulb given that their single tariff is more than 33% more expensive than the cheapest available.

I think there are several types of rooftop solar customers. Some of care about saving every penny, like you appear to. Some who care about using carbon offset gas, not just renewable electricity, like me. And there are some who just want simplicity and ease of use. Either way, enjoy whoever you're with.
