Can I still claim?

Hi guys, so after this recent pandemic I decided to move home. I am a renter in London and noticed that I have been paying way too much council tax (didn’t really think about it before) I am currently paying band E for a studio flat in Hounslow when I should have been paying C. I have started a claim but obviously I am now moving out of the flat. Will they refund me when I no longer live here? 

Any help would be much appreciated.

How do you know you should have been paying Band C?

If the band is reduced you will be refunded any overpayment. Remember to notify the council of your new address.

Hi there, 
so there’s 3 flats in my building 
A (me) studio flat
B (next door) one bed self contained
C (upstairs) huge 2 bedroomed flat 
We all pay band E 
How is this fair/right?

Not impossible, your flat could have been worth £90,000 in April 1991, 1 bed £100,000, 2 bed £120,000. All would correctly be Band E. Or the 2 bed was worth more and was banded too low. Or your band is wrong. Only the VOA knows the answer, so just wait for them to contact you.

Hi!!!! 

So they emailed me yesterday asking for dimension measurements of the rooms and she has just emailed back to confirm that I have been moved down to Band C - I’m absolutely delighted!
