  • I went part time in my 30's and have never ever regretted it - well apart from the pension

The OH went part time 5 years ago - (57 and 59 respectively ) and we have the perfect work/life balance . We both do 24 hrs a week and have employers who are flexible so we can ( with a weeks notice ) swap our days around depending on whats happening in our lives

We used to ( before covid ) enjoy mid week breaks away without using holidays . Right now we have a new puppy, so a wee shift about of days and theres someone home all the time.

You won't regret going PT, give it another year and you will want to cut another day out :)

I don’t think you’re that far from the truth - 3 days would be bliss but if feel a bit lazy in my 40s. Still, I don’t think I’d feel that way for long 🤣

I am only able to work part time because of disability. I’m contracted 25 hours but I’ve been working 30 hours for the last month or so as I need to build my flexi for some time off. I work 5 days a week, 5 hours a day (but I’m doing 6 at the minute) I’m constantly knackered. I don’t know how I ever managed full time (although to be fair I was fit and healthy then)

Do check the impact on your pension. Of a 30 plus year career I worked only 10 years full time, with a big impact on my pension. That being said, I still took it as early as possible and no regrets whatsoever!

Do check out the implications on your state pensions. I know it is many years off but time passes more quickly as you age and the chance is you could live well into your nineties. I've only 30 months to go and have plans for that extra income!

Thanks - already have one pension being paid (military) and will be fully paid up for state pension.
Teaching pension - yep, going to hit it but as it’s not going to be my main income it should be okay (plus the oh has a very good pension when she retires).
