    ..we went flat out to pay our mortgage off ASAP as rates at the time had gone beyond 10% (!!)...I think we had cleared it by around 41 years of age.

    As it happens I am going flat out to get rid of my mortgage. It'll be worth it in the long run. :)

    Don’t forget that for each year you take your pension before your pensionable age  (early retirement) then your pension will be reduced by 3-5% per year taken early
