NHS pension

Hello
Both myself and my husband work for the NHS both early 40s . Unfortunately my husband has a serious health diagnosis. He is well at the moment and able to work but I am worried about the future and any clarity would help. If the worst was to happen how does the NHS pension work, I am aware of death in service benefit , however if he had to give up work in the future what would happen to his pension?. I have contacted my own pension team who haven't come back to me and it isn't something I want to discuss with my husband at the moment. Not something I want to think about but with a young family I need clarity.
Many thanks
Laura

"Ill health
You may be able to retire early and take your pension benefits if you’ve been, both:
- a member for a minimum 2 years’
- too ill to work in your present job"
