O/S Daily Thursday 25 February 2021
This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning
Morning everyone
Hugs to those that want/need them, those who are poorly and those who are looking after a poorly person x
Happy birthday to those with a birthday x
Damp start to the day here and cooler than it has been,
DH getting ready for work, I'm showered, dressed and enjoying my first cuppa and my porridge whilst on here. DS1 still in his pit. DS2 settled and happy.
Dinner last night was beef stew and dumplings, LO mash, LO yorkshires and veg - all eaten and enjoyed.
Yesterday work was ok, waiting for next information that will be issued in March. Pleased I'm now on days' off, As normal I have quite a "to do" list.
Keep safe and well x

Morning All
Thanks for the start nmlc, enjoy your days off.
Pleased to hear you're feeling better dumpling, hope your sister hears better news.
Thinking of you Marie.
How's your arm today AOD?
Big disaster last night, the washing machine has washed its last. The washing was just going round and round and then it stopped, it won't drain so may have a blockage somewhere (if it does I bet it's one of those pesky masks!). Anyway, it's been quite rattly for a while so I've ordered a new one. By the time I've found someone who could have a look at it and paid for that and any parts it may need I've decided to cut my losses, it's about 6 years old so not too bad. Not sure it's a very MSE decision but needs must! Delivery is on Sunday so no need to involve anyone else either. Once I managed to lever the door open I had to rinse the washing in the bath which was a good workout and hung it on the airer which is in the shower at the moment. Such a hassle!
Anyway, work was quite slow yesterday, hoping for it to be a bit more lively today or the days drag. The weather is a bit rough out this morning, strong winds make for wild children!
Hope you have a good day, take care. XX11 -
Good morning and thank you for starting the thread nmlc.
The weatherman says bright and sunny so I have bedding in the washing machine, should be finished about the time Mr AOD gets up. I can manage to load it but he will have to hang it out. My arm is a little but better each day and I have a little bit better range of movement but it is a slow process. Quite frustrating.
Yesterday a friend came to collect a big package of baby jumpers and cardigans that were waiting for her, we had a socially distanced chat on the front path. She brought me some local honey, from the historic house and garden where we usually go for a walk and some thinning of plants from her garden. Then, soon after, a delivery of flowers arrived from another friend and those are cheering up the place - it needs it, so untidy now.
No plans today but tomorrow is jab day for us all. Our surgery is part of a 3 surgery practice and they have been given the use of the latter day saints meeting place.
Been outside to feed the birds, they got their proper bird food plus the scrappy bits at the bottom of my granola bag and I put these on one side of the birdtable. So far, a blackbird and a robin have gone straight for the granola scraps.
Total disaster here otherwise as I'm almost out of milk. OH has blue top milk which I loathe with a passion, I have enough skimmed for one cup of tea and then it will be drinks of water until he goes for his exercise and collects the paper and milk. Poor, deprived me. He will say serves me right for being so blooming fussy.
I hope everyone has a good day.
I was jumping to conclusions and one of them jumped back12 -
Morning folks.Camelot - what a PITA you had. I hope that the new machine is going to be installed too, or perhaps that's not allowed still?
Yesterday Hermes failed to deliver two parcels to me. For one I got an update saying that delivery had failed and they would try again next day, that made me furious as they hadn't tried. The second parcel's update was about a slight delay. A definite gggrrrr. The upside was a most delightful chat with an Amazon agent in Cape Town which cheered me up. He was chuffed when I said I'd been there, mind you on my trip the cable car up to the top of Table Mountain was being serviced and Robben Island was closed! Anyway, he saved me from ranting. 😀😀
DM eventually began to use the watercolours material and equipment so sat contentedly all afternoon faffing away. Then she wasn't too well in the late evening, another episode of AFib, heart rate up to 140bpm. She won't go to hospital, can't blame her, so we just have to sit it out and hope for the best. I'm always fearful first thing in the morning. The cleaner is calling round to hand over a birthday gift she's bought on behalf of DM. A large parcel arrived yesterday from friends in Newcastle so both will be opened tomorrow. 😀
I hope that birthdays, hospital appointments and vaccinations all went well yesterday.AOD - it's good to hear that you're marginally less sore.Happy Thursday to everyone.11 -
Morning all I have been for a walk with the dog and am now sitting with a cuppa sorry AOD x Weather looks like it will be nice again today i love sitting in the garden here with a cuppa as the birdsong is lovely to listen to as we don't have many trees round us at my house its not something i usually hear we also keep hearing a woodpecker on our afternoon walk which is different i feel that although this is 30 minutes away its a totally different experience .
Gers Are you sure we aren't twins ? DH and I went to Mumbai to see the gateway to India guess what it was closed and when we were in Kingston the fort at Port Royal closed it has become a bit of a family joke I am sure there are others as well but i can't remember them
Right better get on I have set myself some tasks i am trying to clear the filling cabinet so i am doing at least 2 files per day its lots of photos /postcards of where mum had been away just scenery mostly , any with her or dad i have kept but the rest have absolutely no meaning to me so sadly are being disposed of .
Have a good day whatever you are up to hugs to those who need one especially Marie,Dumpling and RubySlava Ukraini11 -
Good morning, I'm late this morning, not even dressed yet.I must thank everyone for all the good wishes yesterday, what a lovely lot you are, thank you.The breast clinic was running to time, had mammograms, so just waiting for results now - In a way I'm being a bit premature in putting the flags out, but I have no reason not to be optomistic - since diagnosis and treatment I've had no problems except side effects from the blessed tablets.I've just received a lovely bouquet from DS and family in Oz, so I'll find a vase for it then send them a photo of it. I've already thanked them on Facebook Messenger, did that as soon as the flowers arrived. Isn't technology wonderful!Gers, hope you don't disappear for ever into that cupboard, It sounds interesting though.I'd better go and organise myself and start the day - thinking of Dumpling and her family, also Ruby, AOD and Marie.Take care folks, and thanks again.12

Morning, hugs if you need one. AOD hope the shoulder is feeling a bit better.
DB had palps again last night, he seems to get them everycouple of weeks, am not stressing about them, no one else seems to so why should I. The info is transmitted via his pacemaker to the clinic, so they know whats going on. WE had a wakeful night, well I did, DB was fast asleep.
Morrison this morning, was to meet DD2 but she emailed alst night, she has strained her back again, she seems to have inherited my back weakness, I have told her to get the Dr to arrange an XRay. DB has decided he will go with me and sit in the car reading whilst I do the shopping. I though of something we needed whilst I was awake in the night and promptly forgot!! Hey ho. Its our wedding anniversary on Sunday, DB requested pork steaks so need to get them.
Spoke to the bed people, they were expecting the bed in yesterday, so should get a call from the carriers sometime to arrange delivery.
Neighbour next door called me yesterday my front passenger tyre was soft, so we used the machine that has been sitting in the boot of the car for 2 years to pump it up, need to check before we go out that its ok, if its gone down it means I have a puncture.....just what I could do without!!
Supper tonight, bacon and (home grown) mushroom frittata and salad, no idea re a dessert, may be will do rice pudding.9 -
Morning all,Was late up this morning as I woke in the night with the shoulder pain and couldn't get comfy.I'm still sleeping propped up so shifted my pillows around and tried again, wanted some pain killers but couldn't see any upstairs- this morning spotted some on DH bedside table! Had some when I got up and took hound out, surprised she wasn't banging on the door. I don't like taking her late-too many other dogs!Had a surprise at teatime last night- the bell went and there was the Tes co delivery man, completely forgot it was the only slot I could get,I normally arrange for Thursday and edit my order Wed night. So there were only 2 crate liners, I usually just put basics in to secure the slot. The freezers are rammed so it doesn't really matter but I like to order a treat for Sat evening & a pud for SundayDGD was here for her day of homeschooling by me to give her Mum a break, then later we picked DGS up and they had tea so that was nice, but boy does that lad have some energy!Sending my good wishes to all xx:heartsmil 'A woman is like a teabag: You never know her strength until you drop her in hot water'. Morning! Wood is coming today but I wish I hadn't ordered it now as it's not cold enough for the fire to go on except sporadically. This means I have to wait for the bin ment o come before I can move my car into the street so he can tip the wood on the drive. Faffing about the place....At least I'm showered and dressed so I won't contaminate the street with wafts of smelliness. Oh starts his job on Monday so he's just had a fun time filling in various online forms. No one is using paper any more....I broke yesterday and ordered a cat tree thing for them. Not a terribly expensive one but not a cheap one either but hopefully it'll stop them clawing everything and give them somewhere out of the way to sleep instead of on the massive bean bag which can be retired to the upstairs and thus get out of my bloody way.The talk with Judy Dench was interesting except for the interviewer who may be a big deal in the teaching world but who has no interview skills whatsoever added on top that he preferred to talk about himself, generally interrupt her, not listen to what she was actually saying and be increibly tactless. She was gracious and a lady about it though.Hope everyone is channeling their inner sane person and staying safe etc. hugs and painkillers for the people that need them.Non me fac calcitrare tuum culi10

Morning all.
Gers, I reckon that you will reach Narnia eventually in that cupboard.
Csarina, my brother has one of those devices linked to the hospital. He is living with only half his heart working and the working half has 4 stents in it. He is quite used to answering the phone if he has stupidly walked a bit too far or too fast, and hearing the hospital telling him to get back there. It's a wonderful reassurance.
Camelot, enjoy your new WM. I had to do without one for a while. Mine died while I was buying and selling a house. I decided to wait until I moved into the new house before buying a new one, one less thing to move, I thought. 2x1/2 years later I was still waiting to move and still washing, rinsing and wringing everything in the kitchen sink. Goodness, it doesn't half make you grateful for modern appliances. On the other hand, the muscles in my arms developed incredibly.
AOD I'm with you on the milk. Full cream? Yuk! I'd rather drink my tea and coffee black.
Back to a day of sofa surfing while watching England being thoroughly trounced by India. Test cricket in February! Can't be bad.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Gers, we went whale watching in Boston - guess what? Mind you we now have tickets to go again if we ever return to Boston (very unlikely).
Laura is in a study group this morning, she is on half term from her studies so it will only be a morning thing. I am supposed to be showering and dressing but am snatching a couple of minutes while Steve has Esben. Then I must clean the bathrooms, ho hum, how exciting things are at the moment.
Have a good day all.11
