Sepcialist lenders - anyone succeeded in borrowing a little bit extra more ...?

Options
Hi There
We're in a bit of a pickle... we've had an offer accepted on our home. We've also found a home that we love and the vendor has accepted our offer.
Our current mortgage broker says due to my credit rating and past 3 months of spending habits, lenders are most likely to refuse my application in these current times.
Combined, me and my wife earn a little over £46k, this is also including the £1620 odd child benefit we get, thats the only benefit we receive.
We have £250k equity left over (i'm accepting the fact we'll pay stamp duty) after all the fees, but the house we want is £460k. Which means we need £210k mortgage.
In the beginning my broker said "yes £210k should be achievable". Over recent weeks, he's been asking for more and more intricate financial details like statements, bills, ID, annual mortgage statements, etc. but today he delivered the bombshell and said basically " NO CAN DO" based on the below:
1. He's checked our monthly statements and says our expenses are too high.
2. He says that the existing lender annual statement shows that on 7 occasions throughout the year, the difference between the PAYMENT DUE and PAYMENT MADE dates is too wide a gap. He says this is "fatal". Even though I pay my mortgage monthly for the past 7 years on time with no delay, he says this statement is FATAL. Surely, it's just a !!!!!! up from the lender? For example, on the statement the Due date for jan 2020 mortgage payment states 1-1-2020, but the payment MADE date is 27-01-2021. Despite a direct debit set up on the 26th of every month for the past 7 years, why would they make my statement like this ?!?!
Any help or light shed on this would be most appreciated.... thanks.

@tallmandat Does your credit report show arrears on your mortgage account?

Nope.... Doesn't show I'm in arrears for anything.

@tallmandat Well, if your credit report shows 'Ok' against each month with no '1's then I'm not sure what your broker means when he implies that you had 7 late mortgage payments in the past year. If it was late in manner that impacts your chances of a mortgage, it should show on the credit report.
