Leaving dates and holiday pay

I handed in my notice and my HR rep miscalculated my leave so it didn't cover holiday already booked and approved. Instead of talking to me about it she decided to shorten my notice period and give me the time off as a gap between employment. I'm sure this makes the paperwork much easier as my leaving date is then month end but it means that I lose a paid bank holiday day and a day of leave that I would have accrued during this period.
Its not a huge amount of money but this isnt the first mistake and the errors are allways to my detriment. Am I right to stand my ground and ask for them to honour my notice period or just pay me for the extra 2 days? I also offered to take the holiday but they want me to work right up to my leaving date. My HR rep is acting like I agreed to the shorter notice period and says she now doesnt want to cause confusion by changing it.

Stand your ground. The HR rep saying it will cause confusion is her problem, not yours. You shouldn't have to lose out. Remember you have a contract of employment until the date that you put on your resignation, not the date that some one from HR finds it convenient for you to leave.
You might want to be a bit more diplomatic than I am when pointing this out.

It is not clear
but if all they have done is have you take holiday during the notice period then with the correct notice(contract or statutory) they can do that.
if the holiday is at the end you may finish work early but still get paid for the full notice with some being holiday.
perfectly legal.
If they have shortened the notice they should pay PILON and acrued unused holidays
