Hi everyone,
I need some help from someone that was in the same situation as me or knows how works my situation:
I am currently taking Universal Credit as a jobseeker but I do not find anything and I am not motivated. I decided to run my own business as a translator e interpreter going to self employed. My concern is a do not have any savings and my situation depends of the benefits. I would like to know if I move from the job seeking to self employed benefits I will be covered for the first year or two if i do not have incomes meanwhile my business grow. Does anyone know how it works the self employed universal credit? Will I be covered as a jobseeker now? For how long?
Thanks for your interest and help as I am lost but motivated!

No you will be treated as self employed and are expected to report your earnings every month.XaviUK said:Hi everyone,

Thanks for your reply. But I dont understand yet if I will be covered the months I am not getting income from the business. I know is a business but my question is if I will be covered for the first o two years monthly if I have 0 clients. I am a single person without dependents so only to cover my housing and daily expenses.

If you do not have any clients lined up before starting, one has to wonder what the chances of success are. Is there definitely a market for the language(s) you are able to offer?Signature removed for peace of mind2

Have you asked your work coach if there is any assistance with those looking to start a business at the moment? There is nothing to stop you continuing to look into setting up your business while claiming UC but you will need to keep up with your jobseeking commitments in the meantime."You've been reading SOS when it's just your clock reading 5:05 "1

I take it you will be translating from English into a foreign language because, being brutally honest, your knowledge of English is good, but it is not good enough to offer a translation service from a foreign language into English. If you are querying your Council Tax band would you please state whether you are in England, Scotland or Wales2

In short, ask your work coach about New Enterprise Allowance. It's a scheme run usually by the local authority that helps people on benefits set up their own business. They'll help you with a business plan, and once you're ready to start trading UC will treat you as Self Employed. The big benefit of New Enterprise Allowance is that you're paid extra by UC for startup costs. I believe its about £60 a week but don't quote me.Aside from that you'll be expected to report any earnings and these may be deducted from your UC depending on the amount. They'll also treat your self employed work as work activity so you won't be expected to look for work as long as you're actively building your business.0
