at the very least surely you could get rid of the luxury of satellite tv and netflix - nice to have but there is plenty on freesat and youtube to watch instead

You are a little adrift of a balanced budget even without making payments to the debts.

If you are out of the initial contract with Sky you can phone and make noises that you are thinking of leaving because yu can't afford it. You usually then get some time-limited deductions to keep you.

You will need to devote a bit of time to the exercise but it's good value time, if you se what I mean.

Earlier comments re the mobile phones - similar applies.

Make sure the council tax is paid over 12 months too.
  • Thank you. If we managed to cut some cost here and there and theres more a surplus would my partner risk having a ipa.
  • Basic sky tv internet and netflix together i pay around 50pm
  • I would say keep the Netflix but get rid of the alcohol.
Alcohol is a luxury you cannot afford.
At least the Netflix keeps everyone happy and probably prevents you spending on other stuff through boredom.
Its quite alot of value for £10 a month. Your grocery bill is easily 10x that over budget.
Are either of you actively looking for a full time job?

Cutting out booze, Netflix, and knocking a few quid off the grocery budget is all well and good, but however well intentioned that advice may be, your debt is such that it won`t make much of a dent in 43K, your still looking at a very long repayment period of many, many years.

I still say go with Fatbelly`s advice, unless of course jobs can be found, but the current climate for that is not good everywhere.

  • Thank you for the advice. I think we are going down this route but just a but scary,  i think its the word BANKCRUPTCY whats scary
  • Indeed sourcrates, but £40k of debt doesnt come about as the result of a recently lost job, it come about from years of overspending.
Even with bankruptcy, without a change in habit then you will still be short.
